BBX at the British Society for Lifestyle Medicines (BSLM) Conference 2026!

This year, BBX Bhangra Fitness will join hundreds of medical professionals, guest speakers and experts in lifestyle medicine at BSLM’s biggest ever conference from 10th– 12th September at the University of Warwick!

The annual conference is renowned for bringing together experts and specialists who share insights into all aspects of lifestyle medicine; not only will there be ground-breaking research in Lifestyle Medicine focusing on chronic conditions and day-to-day health, but also activities such as walking, yoga and Bhangra to start the day with a sense of drive and purpose!

The Six-Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine

The 6 key pillars that form the basis for lifestyle medicine principles are:

  1. Mental Wellbeing

Lifestyle medicine teaches proven techniques to reduce stress and help people with relaxation.

  1. Healthy Eating

Lifestyle Medicine supports people to reduce consumption of ultra-processed foods by teaching the knowledge and skills required to follow healthier eating patterns of people’s own choosing.

  1. Physical Activity

Lifestyle Medicine supports people to choose ways in which they could incorporate more physical activity in their lives, as well as reducing time spent sitting down.

  1. Healthy Relationships

Lifestyle Medicine supports people to develop and sustain healthy and meaningful relationships and increase social connection to reduce stress and promote both physical and mental health.

  1. Sleep

Lifestyle Medicine supports people to achieve good quality sleep and to avoid behaviours which have the potential to impair sleep quality.

  1. Minimising Harmful Substances

Lifestyle Medicine supports people to stop smoking, reduce excessive alcohol consumption, avoid addictive substances and behaviours such as gambling or excessive internet or social media use.

Bhangra Fitness Study – Research Results

BBX partnered with the University of Wolverhampton on ground-breaking research into the health benefits of Bhangra fitness with results of the Study due to be announced at the BSLM Conference at Warwick University in September 2026! This marks a significant milestone in BBX’s journey, with Bally Bhogal stating:

“We are thrilled that our Bhangra Fitness Study has been selected from 80 submissions for presentation of research findings and results. This was a highly competitive process and thanks to the BSLM Science and Research Committee we will be able to join our partners from the University of Wolverhampton to announce the results of the research project on such a prestigious and global stage!”

Over 1000 delegates will be armed with inspiration and new knowledge after this year’s upcoming BSLM conference! 2026 promises to provide fresh insights into how rising costs and pressures can be relieved from the increasing burden of chronic disease and how lifestyle medicine can bring new opportunities to improve the lives of patients, clinicians and communities. The theme is all about “transformation” and what lifestyle medicine offers to make a radical shift in primary care to a more preventative approach.

There is increasing evidence from scientific research that social prescribing is an important tool to support people make small changes in their lifestyle to improve their health and wellbeing. By engaging in art, dance and cultural activities, people engage with others with likeminded interests and benefit from the social connections that brings. We all need healthy relationships and a feeling of purpose in life to remain well and lifestyle medicine offers a route to enabling that on a much larger scale for the population of the UK.
